This job offers you a monthly salary of € 5.000,- and € 7.000,- euro gross for working 36 hours a week depending on your knowledge and experience.

Your impact as ESG & Climate Strategist at NN

In the international head office of NN Group, you work closely with your colleagues in the Corporate Citizenship (CC) team (ca 14 people) and you are contributing to our strategic ambitions and sustainability strategy, more specifically in the area of ESG and climate change for NN Group’s own assets/investments. You will work with key internal stakeholders (e.g. NN Investment Office, and NN Investment Partners) to develop and refine strategies for NN’s own assets to climate change in support of NN Group’s commitment to align with the goals of the Paris Agreement, in close consultation with the Business Units (BUs) and group functions. As an ESG and Climate Change Strategist, you will play a key role in:

  • Strengthening the group wide responsible investment policy framework, with regard to climate change, and other relevant ESG themes
  • Developing methodologies and approaches for alignment of NN’s investment portfolio to the climate goals
  • Enhancing NN’s ESG and climate reporting at the asset owner/group level, with consideration of the competitive landscape, and in line with EU-regulatory requirements

Your responsibilities

  • Define targets in line with the overall strategic direction, formulating joint goals and roadmaps and monitoring the progress on all climate related activities, with focus on investing and assist in developing and implementing best practice approaches to achieve net zero commitments
  • Enhance the framework of monitoring and reporting of the carbon footprint and develop climate action progress report for the NN Group investment portfolio and raise awareness and knowledge sharing on ESG and climate change initiatives related to NN own assets across the business
  • Track market, competitor, methodology and policy developments regarding climate related risks and opportunities and in the area of risks and opportunities with social impact and develop reporting and communications on the social footprint and positive societal impact of the investment portfolio
  • Build on and keep updating the group-wide climate scenario analysis, developing and implementing tools to increase the quality of climate related data, and advising the BUs on methodology, tools and alignment of different efforts throughout the company 
  • Influence, build and maintain relationships between NN Group and a broad range of external stakeholders and represent NN and participate in various external initiatives (o.a. IIGCC, PCAF)

Who you are

You have a proven track record working in a complex and international organisation combined with excellent written and verbal communications skills in Dutch and English. Furthermore, you are pro-active, self-starting and you have highly developed strategic, analytical and data skills.

You are a team player with an open mind who effectively manages relations with a diverse group of stakeholders. You know how to handle (price sensitive / confidential) information with discretion. 
 
We prefer candidates with the following experience and skill sets: 

  • Master’s degree (preferably in sciences, maths, finance or economics) and passion for ESG related topics and a comprehensive understanding of the sustainable investment/ ESG landscape and financial markets
  • Approximately 5-10 years of working experience in the area of finance, investments and/or sustainability
  • The ability to use research and analysis, leverage data, gain business insights and to develop and implement strategy based on complex analyses
  • Experience working on climate change and/or broader ESG issues applied in an investment context and an understanding of carbon footprinting, climate- related scenario analysis, target setting and reporting systems
  • Excellent communication skills ; fluent in English (oral and written)

Your colleagues

Our team is responsible for all the Corporate Citizenship themes in relation to all our stakeholders, such as clients, colleagues, media and society at large. We play a central role in ensuring NN is responsibly managing its impact on people, the environment and the communities in the markets in which we operate. The team supports and advises NN's Management Board and Business Units on how to contribute to positive change in society. 

Corporate Citizenship is part of the Corporate Relations (CR) department. At the international head office in The Hague, CR is a support function for NN Group’s Management Board and the business and is divided into specific specialist teams, based on the type of communications, or stakeholder group, for which each division is responsible. 

The department consists of the following teams: 

  • Corporate Communications 
  • Branding 
  • Corporate Citizenship  
  • Public & Government Affairs 
  • The Corporate Relations department has approx. 47 employees and is steered by the Corporate Relations Management Team

  • Holiday allowance and a 13th month, paid with your monthly salary

Because of Covid-19, all NN colleagues are currently working from home fully digitally. It is currently not yet clear when we can return to the office. The official location for this job is The Hague.
